of home and a heart for your people (part I)

I have been wanting to blog a zillion times. But work hasn't been mercyful to me in recent weeks and there is always activity after activity urging me to leave things like blogging for tomrw -- which will never come.

There is a topic that has been resurfacing in recent weeks tt i would like to capture and pen down before the NDP atmosphere fades.

Of Home and a Heart for your People.

a few things happened in the past month
1) I was invited to a ministrial dialogue almost a mth ago. i had a v good chat with a post-1965 MP, Teo Ser Luck, over refreshment. I like him alot. He's quite an ah beng on first impression to be honest. Not a polished up immaculate-english kinda of guy that i was expecting. He was the CEO of Fedex Singapore before recently roped in by PAP. He is one of the only 2 person in the PAP group who is from an out-&-out private sector (we don't count stat board or companies like Capland). He said he never did well in JC and uni but was fortunate to still get somewhere (CEO leh, mai4 xiao2 xiao4) and make some decent money (i would guess). He was surprised nobody during the dialogue session raised worries about jobs (the dialogue invitees were undergrads n fresh grads who obviously were doing well in life) and tt was quite worrying because he told me about the growing gulf between pple who are excelling in Sg and pple who are still scrambling. He reminded me that whatever happens to Sg, i can always make a good living overseas for myself. But there are a ton of pple here who will never have my chance. If Sg sink, so will they. I sensed his heart and responsibility to leave the glam and $$ of the private sector (he laughed at accusations tt MPs like him are in this for the $$) to do something for his own people, being the bridge in his community from behind the scenes.

He urged me to step up if the nation comes knocking on my door one day to serve. He shared tt the PM has a big burden that v few capable man from private sectors are willing to come forward.

A true heart of serving starts with dying to yourself.

okies... i got to stop here. Have something important to churn out for the startup. We are getting a lot of buzz by a couple of VCs, including a big big player from the industry. Considering there are only 4 of us working full time on this, its pretty good news at this stage, which also means alot of work.

Will leave this thread for part II.
