grow old with you

The wife of my deceased Oreo, Hershey is sick. This time round, i did my best to bring her to the vet immediately when i noticed something is amiss. The vet said she is likely to be suffering from urinary thread infection, a common old age illness. She also told me rodents, like most mammals of prey, are created by nature to hide their weaknesses. Hence when your chinchilla starts to show symptoms of illness, she is actually really sick. (I learnt something new yesterday)

I checked with her what's the average lifespan of chinchillas in Sg from her experience. She wasn't able to give me an answer as not many chins made it to the vet that old from her experience and most probably die fr poor care/heat exhaustion. (quite sad though im not entirely surprised)

Hence, my guess still remains that Singapore chins will probably live to about 7yrs (3 less than the average in cold climate). Coupled with the things the vet told me, it does seem like Hershey's chances are pretty bleak. Hershey is 6yrs plus old.

To be honest, she hasn't been quite the same after Oreo died. Could tell she was very upset for a week after Oreo's death. They say old people pass away very quickly after their spouse leave. I guess it maybe the same for the animal kingdom too.

How many of us know where we will be heading after we leave planet earth?

... on a lighter note, the daughter chin recently learnt the trick that only oreo used to know - jumping to my shoulder when the cage is open. quite a pleasant surprise.
